Common AC Problems in Summer

As the temperatures begin to heat up, your AC has to work much harder to keep your home cool and comfortable. This is the time you should keep a close eye on your AC to ensure it’s in good working order. The last thing you want to deal with this summer is a malfunctioning air conditioner.

Here at Perfect Temp Systems, we understand the common AC problems that you might experience during this period.

Thermostat Troubles

Thermostat issues can arise from loose wiring between the thermostat and the AC unit, program defects, debris damage, improper installation, incorrect positioning, and more. You’ll know your thermostat is failing if the AC unit won’t start, the air conditioner runs continuously, and you notice different temperatures throughout the home.

Clogged Air Filters

Your AC unit is bound to collect dust, dirt, dander, pollen, pet hair, and debris as it moves air throughout your home. Over time, the unit will become clogged, causing your AC to work much harder. Clogged air filters can result in AC failure, higher energy consumption, and other problems. That’s why it’s important to clean your AC filters regularly and replace them every three months.

Refrigerant Leaks

Refrigerant is a liquid that sucks up hot air from your house and transports it outside. If this liquid leaks or it happens that not enough of it was added when the system was installed, your AC unit cannot cool your home effectively. If you suspect you have an AC refrigerant leak, call an experienced AC repair specialist to inspect the unit and determine how best to fix it.

Fan Malfunctioning

An AC unit has two fans; one that blows indoor air over evaporator coils to cool it and an external fan that helps remove heat from the hot coil in the condenser. Either of these fans can stop working properly and impair your AC’s functioning. Fan issues can arise from debris damage, worn-out belts, lack of lubrication, a bad motor and more. You should call a reliable HVAC company to take care of fan problems as soon as possible before they lead to a broken compressor.

Noisy Air Conditioner

All air conditioners produce some sound, but if your unit is louder than usual, that is an indication that something is wrong with the unit. If you notice screeching or squealing sounds, the culprit could be a faulty belt or a broken motor bearing. Rattling, banging, or thumping sounds might indicate a problem with the blower. Persistent and unusual sounds coming from your air conditioner are always something that should be addressed by a professional HVAC company.
